Registered nurses wanted

I announced last week House Passage of H.R. 264, the Fiscal Year 2008 Energy and Water Appropriations Act, which included a $250,000 grant to Indiana Wesleyan University School of Nursing that he sponsored.

Indiana ranks below the national average for Registered Nurses with only 761 Registered Nurses per a population of 100,000. With the baby boomers increasing health care needs, this nursing shortage in Indiana must be addressed immediately.

The Indiana Wesleyan University nursing program has experienced significant growth in the past three years and is currently at capacity. Additional laboratory space, teaching faculty, and clinical sites as well as a nursing simulation lab are all needed to respond to Indiana’s growing nursing crisis.

Nurses play a vital roll in today’s health care system. Nursing is a rewarding, exciting career and I hope that this funding will allow more individuals the opportunity to explore and experience nursing.
